Prior to making and designing films, Tink worked as a multi-disciplinary designer in Tokyo and New York. Here are a few samples of his work from that time:

Sanji Furniture Collection

The name is a play on a Persian term of affection, which sounds like “Juji”. In Japan, where Tink lived, his closest friend, Golbarg Parstabar referred to him as that. In Japanese, though, it sounds like “10 O’Clock” – So Tink, with a subtle wink, chose “Sanji” (“3 O’Clock”) as a tribute to her.

The collection consists of 6 hand-manufactured and signed pieces. They relate to the image of concentric circles and of contrast between shadow and light. Details are simple and perfectly executed.

Lewisohn Collection
Lewisohn Collection

Named in honor of his good friend and first client, Mark Lewisohn, Tink created the collection as a rebuttal to the overtly “machinist” detailing of the work of his mentor Yasuo Kondo. The pieces illustrate how working with the intrinsic function of each piece can yield compelling silhouettes and elegant detailing.

Clockwise from left: Ban-Ban Chair, Lewisohn Chair, Chika-Chika Chair, Wing Table. All pieces are hand cut, bent and ground aluminum with hand-ground solid brass or aluminum legs.
